Happiness is my first blog entry for a new web site, Absolute Hawaii that we have created for our premiere Hawaii vacation homes !
And more happiness is a win for our Hawaiian team of longboarders that captured the 2011 Malibu Surfing Association crown last weekend.

Hawaiian Longboard Federation wins 2011 MSA Classic
I thought this was a good way to start my first blog as so many of our guests over the years have come to Hawaii and surfed with my son David and his brother Michael, or gone out on canoe rides, or taken stand up paddling lessons… Or just came down to the beach to meet all the wonderful beach boys that work so hard in Waikiki.
Here is what team coach and captain David Carvalho had to say about the historic win:
Aloha to all of my great sponsors,
There was something good that happened on Sept. 11th, A HAWAIIAN TEAM OF LONGBOARDERS led by their captain and coach David Carvalho took the 50th anniversary Malibu Surfing Association Invitational Classic.
It was the first time in the history of this event! Micky Dora, Rabbit Kekai, David Nuuhiwa to say the least have all participated in this event multiple times .
The team of 24 that were pieced together from all around the state including a strong contingent from Maui led by our co-captain Neal Norris, owner-operator of Valley Isle Longboards. We were in 2nd going into Sunday’s finals, from there the Hawaiians said enough! After a brief speech from their captain the night before and a rare award also presented to them that same evening (sportsmanship award) they let it all hang out and completely dominated to say the least.
Thanks to all of my great sponsors and good friends along the way …
GOD BLESS ALL THE PEOPLE WHO LOST THERE LIVES SEPT 11th.
And thank you to all of my team — GREAT JOB !!!
-David Carvalho
And here is what President Michael Blum of MSA had to say:
Who packs an umbrella for rain at a Malibu contest in September? Apparently no one, though that’s what was briefly needed during an event-filled, sometimes unpredictable, but always a good-time celebration of the Malibu Surfing Association’s 50th anniversary at their annual invitational club contest, the MSA Classic held at First Point, September 9-11.
In small, playful conditions which placed a premium on strategy and in-form surfing the Hawai’i Longboard Federation (HLF), representing surfers from across the state, won the MSA Classic Team Overall trophy. This was HLF’s first win as they placed nine surfers in division finals. HLF team members Mike Kohles took first in the Men 50+ and junior-age Honolua Bloomfield won both her Women U17 and Women’s Open Shortboard divisions. HLF’s 2011 MSA Classic crown was only the second time in the past ten years the Malibu Surfing Assoc. didn’t win its home contest.
Said Michael Blum, MSA President, “Our team was certainly hoping for a better result. That’s that. We congratulate the Hawaii Longboard Federation on their well deserved win. We’re privileged to have them — as surfers, friends, and ambassadors of Hawai’i — participate in our event.
